Is Bowen therapy safe? What can Bowen therapy treat? What happens during a Bowen session? Below is the answer to these and other questions you may have about Bowen Therapy.

If you have any further questions or would like specific information about how Bowen therapy could help you, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Is Bowen Therapy safe?

Bowen Therapy has no contraindications; it is a therapy that is appropriate for everyone, from the young to the old, the active to the infirm. There is no manipulation of hard tissue and no force applied.

What can Bowen Therapy treat?

Bowen therapy is a holistic, remedial form of bodywork, therefore, we ‘treat’ the whole person rather than specific conditions.  It is effective at relieving or resolving an array of muscular/skeletal, organic, and reproductive problems.

PLEASE NOTE: The Bowen Technique is not intended as a substitute for medical advice or treatment. If in doubt, please consult your own Doctor.

What can I expect when I come for a Bowen Session?

Once you arrive, we will discuss what has brought you to the clinic, the problems you are experiencing, and how these are affecting your life.

During this discussion, I will also take a detailed medical history, which will be followed by an overall assessment of the body.

Once this has been completed, you will be asked to relax on the couch or on a chair if you are unable to lie down. I will then make a series of gentle rolling moves over muscles, ligaments, and tendons. During the session, I will leave the room for a few minutes at a time, and this is to allow your body to respond to the moves I have made. It is these breaks that make Bowen Bowen!

Therapy can be performed directly on the skin with you dressed in your underwear with full towel etiquette (for your warmth and modesty) or through light clothing if you prefer. In this case, please arrive wearing something lightweight and non-slippery. A t-shirt and loose trousers or shorts (not jeans) are ideal.

If you are wearing bulky or heavy items of clothing, such as a thick jumper, you will be asked to remove them before the treatment can begin.

How long does a Bowen session take?

Adult sessions usually take between 45 minutes to 1 hour, however, please allow up to 1½ hours for your first appointment as this will include taking a detailed history and assessment. For children, babies and infants sessions, please allow up to 20 minutes.

How many Bowen Therapy sessions will I need?

Everyone responds differently, so there is no definitive answer.

On average, the number of treatments required to see a significant improvement is around 3 to 4.  Some issues resolve after only one session, but others may require regular sessions to maintain the improvement.

You do not need to wait until you feel unwell or are in pain to benefit from Bowen Therapy. Many clients find it beneficial to have ‘top-up’ or ‘maintenance’ sessions, as this helps the body function at its best, manage stress, and prevent new problems from developing.

How much will it cost?

A single Bowen Therapy session costs £48 for clients over the age of 14. A minimum of 3 sessions is usually recommended.  Children under the age of 14, babies, and infants are at a cost of £28. Payment is accepted by cash or major credit or debit cards (excluding American Express).

Please note that I no longer accept cheques.

Is there parking and easy access to the clinic for people with mobility issues and wheelchairs?

There is a free tarmac car park a few metres from the clinic and a tarmac path that then leads to the clinic entrance. As well as steps there is also a slope for wheelchair/easy access and the clinic has wide doors suitable for most wheelchairs.

Can I bring a friend or relative to act as a Chaperone?

If you would feel more comfortable with someone in the therapy room during your Bowen therapy session you are very welcome to bring someone with you.

Can I mix Bowen with other complementary therapies?

No, it is recommended that Bowen is not mixed with other therapies for at least 7 days before or after a session, as mixing therapies can overload the body and may affect the outcome.

Who is welcome at Norfolk Bowen Therapy?

I operate an inclusive clinic and all will be welcomed here! My clinic provides equality of service and care to everyone, regardless of people's age, disability, gender, gender identity, race, faith, or sexual orientation. All will be welcomed and treated with respect.

How do I book a session?

To contact me, please telephone 07709 452412 and leave a message if I am unable to answer, and I will return your call as soon as possible, or email me.

You will then be emailed or sent a confirmation of your appointment, and a leaflet with further information and directions.
